Dermal Filler

We offer three different Dermal Filler treatments here at the Brentwood Medical Group & Laser Center.

About the Treatment

The dermal fillers, Juvederm™ and Radiesse™, are injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid that can be used in nonsurgical, physician-administered treatments. Hyaluronic acid, is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to hydrate and add volume. Hyaluronic acid may diminish with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. The gels work to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to smooth wrinkles and folds. The fillers are eased under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis, the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis, to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds. Please consult with us to decide which filler or combination of fillers are best for meeting your needs.

Treatable Conditions

Conditions that may be treated include:

  • wrinkles and folds in the lower third of the face
  • smiles lines between the nose and mouth
  • small lines above the lip
  • frown lines between the eyes
  • creases at the corners of the mouth

Procedure & Results

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers do not require allergy tests prior to treatment. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 minutes and has no downtime. You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last up to 6 months or more. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental "touch up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

Pre-treatment

Before treatment, avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, for at least a week in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

Potential Side Effects and Post-treatment

After treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. Some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. Utilize an ice-pack on any irritation or swelling.

Safety Information

Conditions that may exclude you from treatment with dermal fillers include severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis, multiple severe allergies, and allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins.

FAQ

What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout the body. For example, it adds volume to the skin, lubricates the joints, and gives the eye its shape.

How do Radiesse and Juvederm differ from other dermal fillers?
Juvederm and Radiesse are non-animal forms of hyaluronic acid. These products have many advantages over similar products used for dermal enhancement. No sensitivity testing is required prior to administration and no allergic reactions have been reported. Additionally, the results of these treatments last much longer than many of the alternatives.
